Freedom – a reflection from Simon

This comes with my blessing and prayers as we head past the 100th day of Lockdown.

We have been told by the government that more freedom is coming. Freedom from lockdown, freedom from two metre restrictions, freedom from complete isolation, freedom to visit shops, family ‘bubbles’ and even the Coffee Shop!

We will each begin to enjoy the benefits of these ‘freedoms’ over the coming days.

I have been reminded though that we are likely to see three ‘waves’ in the journey to recovering freedom.

Wave one will be ‘personal & community’ recovery.

Wave two will involve ‘economic’ recovery.

Wave three will have possibly the biggest impact, consisting of the ‘mental health & well-being’ recovery.

As a Church we have much to offer as waves one, two and three approach.

2 Corinthians 3:17 says ‘Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

We may need reminding that, even under lockdown, Jesus offers freedom. His Spirit in us brings freedom. Freedom from condemnation, freedom from isolation, freedom from being dominated by our fears.

With this in mind we have decided to open the Church building for private prayer on Wednesdays (10am-12pm) and Saturdays (2pm-4pm), starting Saturday 4 July.

On Wednesday 1 July we also opened the coffee shop, following government guidelines, to enable people to reconnect with each other. (10.30am-4.30pm Monday-Friday)

We continue to offer resources that will help us to pray, and our Sunday Livestream services aim to provide Sunday worship.

We also hope to provide a ‘drive in’ Church service on Sunday 26 July (venue to be confirmed).

Gradually, we are beginning to reconnect face to face. As we rediscover greater ‘freedom’ let’s be mindful that freedom begins from within.

God bless you all
