Heart of the Community project – latest updates

Out to tender and ready to goHeart of the Community project

All the pre-planning conditions of the development have now been satisfied and we have received a release letter from South Glos Planning Department. Tenders have now been sent out to our final list of six preferred contractors. Please pray that we will select the one most suitable for the project and for the church’s mission.

Technical Liaison
Peter Fewings has been appointed as Technical Liaison Officer for the new church and community centre contract. The role is to assist in the efficient construction of the new centre. Peter, who helped in the building of the original Old School Rooms extension in 2002, will be key to ensuring high standards and good communications as the contractors construct the new buildings. Please pray for Peter and Dave Carey as they shoulder significant responsibilities over the next 15 months.

Heart of the Community prayer
As the start of the building work proper approaches, there is a sense that this is really going to happen! It is more important than ever to cover the whole project in prayer. Watch this space for a half night of prayer for the project, sometime in May. Church members are asked to keep praying individually and in Life Groups for the project.
Pre-building work
About 100 tons of the building stone from the previously demolished barns is being reclaimed by Patchway Building Supplies, who are making a significant financial contribution to the HOTC project. The owner said “I feel so privileged to be a part of this Heart of the Community project, which is providing community facilities”. And this last week, workmen have been on site removing the remaining rubble and preparing the ground for the building work.
Engagement events
Some of the guests who attended our first engagement event, hosted by Bishop Mike, are visiting the site in the next couple of weeks to find out how they can be more involved. The second engagement event is planned for Friday 17th May. Invitations have already gone out to Jack Lopresti (our local MP) and the CEOs and managing directors of major local business. Please pray for continued success.
