New Wine Discipleship Year

St Michael’s is pleased to be a hub for the New Wine Discipleship year

What is the New Wine Discipleship Year?

In a nutshell, the Discipleship Year is about growing as disciples of Jesus, learning how to serve him and his Kingdom with the whole of your life, for the whole of your life. It will take you on a life-changing journey of discovery and adventure, where you’ll be inspired, get practical Kingdom experience, make life-long friendships, and have a lot of fun in the process!

Who is it for?

The Discipleship Year is for ANYONE aged 18-24 looking to:

  • Grow confidence in who God has made you to be
  • Discover the purpose he has for your life
  • Get involved by serving in a local church
  • Discover, exercise and nurture your spiritual gifts and passions
  • Be challenged to step out, risk and see God work through you
  • Experience the adventure of overseas mission

Who we are

The New Wine Discipleship Year in the South West is based at St Michael’s Church, Stoke Gifford, Bristol. We are a large, lively charismatic Anglican church in the New Wine network. We are a diverse group of people, but together we share a common vision: to be a Christian heart at the centre of our communities. We aim to equip each other to live to make a difference by learning and growing together, sharing Jesus together and serving together.

We are situated right next to Parkway train station. The church has a large church centre, which is used for community and conference events as well as church services.

Discipleship Year Structure

Each week is broken down in to 8 hours of teaching, and 12-16 hours of serving in your chosen ministry area: Children’s, Youth, Schools, Worship, Outreach, Pastoral etc.  Our teaching day will be on a Thursday, and this will be held at St Michael’s. Placements are at local churches, mostly in Bristol and the surrounding area.

Throughout the year we will spend time together worshipping, praying, listening, laughing and learning. As we go through the year there will be retreat days, residential weekends and plenty of opportunity to get stuck in and serve the wider Church!
