Life Groups

Life Groups

Life Groups are a central part of life at St Michael’s Church. They are smaller groups of church members who gather together regularly for conversation, Bible study, prayer and discussion. They provide an excellent chance to get to know each other better and to grow together in our faith. Very often they also provide excellent coffee and cake!

Tailor made

All adults at St Michael’s are encouraged to be part of a Life Group. Currently there are 23 groups to choose from — they meet at different times of day, weekly, monthly or fortnightly.

Meeting together in small groups is a great way to connect with God and other Christians on a personal level. Whatever your age, availability, Christian experience or preferred approach to Bible study, we’re sure you’ll find a Life Group that suits you.

Sign-up Sundays

Every year, for two Sundays in September, everyone is given the opportunity to sign up for a life group. This is for those who are not yet in a life group to sign up, and also for those already in a group to try something new.

You can, of course, join a group or change group at any time during the year, but sign-up Sundays raise the profile of life groups across the church.

For further information please contact Tracy and Vijay Jassal Via our contact page.

Choose a life group

Below are details of all 21 life groups currently running at St Michael’s. Whatever your age, availability, Christian experience or preferred approach to Bible study, we’re sure you’ll find a Life Group that suits you.

Art & Soul Space – Amanda Grinnell & Kim Carey

Monday afternoons, weekly (term time)

An informal “space” for those who like to express and explore their spirituality through art and creativity. A space to meet with others to share, reflect, be still, create and just be.

Paul and Heather Woodcraft

Monday evenings, fortnightly (term time)
For 20-somethings

An easy-going group looking to explore faith and the Bible in a relaxed, friendly environment. It’s a great group if you’re looking for either an informal introduction to faith or encouragement in growing deeper.
Socials during holidays – usually involving food!

Tim & Grace Coates

Monday Night Live

With UWE on our doorstep, we are keen to find new ways to reach students! One will be a monthly cafe church, with live bands or open mic style music and in interactive testimony or talk. We want to give students who have no faith or used to have a faith, a platform to see and hear about a real God at work in Bristol. We aim for this to take place in Costa at Filton Abbeywood Retail Park.

Dave and Donna Pilch

Tuesday  evenings, fortnightly

Our main focus is Bible study and connecting with others, developing both new friendships and our relationship and faith with Jesus.

Tanya Booth

Tuesday evenings (except the 1st of the month)

We are a small group with a focus on Bible study in an accessible way, helping each other through prayer, practical support and friendship.

Chris and Roz Gane

Tuesday evenings, fortnightly

Our Lifegroup has a pastoral emphasis, as we seek to grow in our faith together, sharing our experiences and learning to live out our faith in our daily lives.

Tracy and Vijay Jassal

Tuesday evenings, weekly

We enjoy in-depth Bible study, prayer, worship and sharing, with the aim of strengthening our walk with Jesus.  We hope that fun and friendship are an integral part of our group. We encourage active ministry across many areas of church and community life.

Nick and Debbie Bambridge

Tuesday evenings
Will appeal to 20s, 30s and 40s

We look to gain a better understanding of God through informal Bible study and lively discussion. Keen to build friendships and help each other in practical ways.

Unite – Joel, Catherine, and the youth team

Wednesdays, 7pm, OSR
Age 14–18 (School Years 10–13)

An opportunity to meet up with friends, play some games and have fun whilst worshipping and learning how the Bible applies to real life.  We support one another and encourage one another to make a difference.

John and Poppy Spens

Wednesdays, weekly
Cheswick Estate

We have been involved in starting a new congregation of St Michael’s on the Cheswick estate. Our aim is to build relationships with the community in Cheswick and share faith through serving the needs of the community and relevant evangelism.

Chris and Julie Bradley

“A Life of  Discipleship” – a one year programme where we will explore together the habits of discipleship and encourage each other to put them into practice. If you are able and willing to commit to coming weekly and are open to being challenged and stretched, then this group could be for you.

Suited to those in their 20s, 30s and 40s

Olly and Tamara McGregor

Thursday evenings in Bradley Stoke
All ages welcome

We aim to explore different aspects of Christian faith in a friendly and open environment. We also try to encourage fellowship and support for one another, as well as having fun and doing social stuff!

Karen and Colin Needham

We take a practical approach to Bible study, with plenty of opportunity for discussion and prayer, enabling us to grow closer to God.

Andy and Sara Clothier

Thursday evenings, 3 times a month
All ages welcome

We take a theme and study and debate it together.  We have socials regularly and we always have a summer BBQ and Christmas party.  If you are looking for a group that have fun and learn and grow together then our life group could be for you.

Co-ordinator: Vicky Wicks

Second Thursday of the month

This group comes together around a kitchen table for a time of Christian fellowship and discussion. We encourage each other in our personal relationship with Jesus and support each other in our busy daily lives. We aim to pray and support each other between meetings.
Please note that as we meet less frequently this group is well suited to those who cannot attend a more regular group due to work, family or church commitments. However, a commitment to attend regularly is required.

Chris and Louise Pott

Thursday evenings every fortnightly

Our focus is mid-life spirituality. You’ll probably have been a Christian for at least 10 years, have a solid Biblical background, and are looking to reach and explore a different stage of your relationship with God.

Sue Peacey (with Sally Carter)

Thursday evenings, fortnightly
For mid-life women (but not necessarily admitting to it!)

Christian ladies on a faith journey together, where we both look out and care deeply for each other.

Jane and Mike Watkivs

First Saturday morning of the month
Venue varies
Men’s group

Our key theme is answering the question ‘How are you?’ openly and honestly. A place for men to take a risk sharing what is actually going on, the genuine difficulties, fears and doubts they face. An open space with a focus on Jesus Christ as our inspiration, guide and goal, to be and vulnerable but it is not all heavy – we also laugh together and often spend time chatting and getting to know each other as friends.
