Join the St Michael’s Electoral Roll

At St Michael’s we want to live to make a difference, by being a Christian heart at the centre of our communities.  If St Michael’s is your home church we encourage you to join the electoral roll.

The Electoral Roll is the Church of England’s official register of who worships with us here at St Michael’s. If you’re not currently on the roll, we would love you to sign-up.

If you completed a form for the 2019 -2025 electoral roll (the past five years ) you do not need to complete one again, unless your details have changed.

The application deadline is Sunday 7 April to ensure it is completed by our Annual Meeting on 24 April.

Why have an Electoral Roll?

It is your parish church register of electors. It is the list of those qualified to attend and to vote at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting where the elections take place for the Parochial Church Council and the parish’s representatives on the Deanery Synod.  Any person entitled to attend the Annual Church Parochial Meeting may raise any question of parochial or general church interest.

How do I join the Electoral Roll?

You can join the electoral roll online by filling in the form below.
Alternatively, you can complete a paper form and return it to the church office.

How do I know if I am resident in the parish?

You can use a Church Near You to determine whether your home address falls within St Michael’s parish boundaries or not.

Couples Connect – A Marriage MOT Evening

Marriage MOT evening for Married Couples

Friday 23 February
7 pm: Drinks and nibbles
7.30 pm – 9.30 pm: Talk and discussion (just in your couple)

Ticket cost:  £20 per couple CLICK HERE TO BOOK

Why not join us for a date night to invest in your marriage? Whether you have been married less than a year or more than 60 years (or any time in between), whether you have a good relationship or are struggling, this is a great opportunity to take stock of what is going well and identify areas that you’d like to improve.

David and Sarah Abell, the founders of The Relationships Academy, will be sharing about the importance of building and maintaining a strong connection. They’ll be looking at what can impact connection and how to identify and rebuild it when we experience conflict, stress or misunderstandings.

You’ll discover:

What strengthens connection for both of you
How you react when hurt or stressed
How you impact each other when disconnected
How to repair and rebuild your connection
How to develop a resilient relationship

David and Sarah Abell are the founders of The Relationships Academy and have developed a model of couple to couple Christian therapeutic coaching. They met on a Christian counselling course but in the distant past, David worked as a dentist and Sarah was a BBC TV reporter. Sarah has also helped to develop The Marriage Course and The Marriage Preparation Course, was the Agony Aunt for the Daily Telegraph and a columnist for Psychologies magazine and is the author of “Inside Out – How to have authentic relationships with everyone in your life.”

David and Sarah live in Bristol and have been working together, helping couples, since 2016. They have been married for 19 years and have one slightly cheeky teenage son and a very cheeky teenage (in dog years) Cavapoo.

Kintsugi Hope Wellbeing Group

We are currently planning a daytime course. Please email Jess and Abbie if you would be interested in joining.

How is your emotional wellbeing?

After the last few years it may well have taken a bit of a battering!  Maybe you are struggling with anxiety, depression, anger, grief or stress or maybe you are supporting someone dealing with these issues…

They are all very normal emotions; so please know that you are not alone!

Why not consider joining a 6 week wellbeing programme being run by St Michael’s Church, Stoke Gifford?

It’s called Kintsugi Hope and is based on the belief that there can be treasure found in the scars of life.

Each week, in a small, safe and supportive group, we will look at subjects rarely talked about in depth such as : Honesty, anxiety, depression, perfectionism, shame and anger.

The aim of this shared journey is to gain support, understanding and tools that will enable us to become more resilient.

Kintsugi groups are suitable both for people of faith and for those with none.

Please email Jess and Abbie if you have any questions

Who is it For?

The stress and demands of modern living can take their toll on our mental health and wellbeing.

Many of us may feel the effect but not fully understand the cause. There has been a tendency in our society to not talk about our struggles yet ….” healing starts the moment we are heard!”

So the vision of Kintsugi Hope is to provide a place where people can experience :

  • Safety and support where there is no shame and embarrassment in struggling
  • An increase in self worth, confidence and wellbeing
  • A deeper understanding of the reality of Gods love for them.
  • Clear pathways to receive additional support if needed

What it’s not….

It is not therapy – there are no leaders or experts.

For this reason it would not be suitable for those with a more serious diagnosed mental illness.

If you feel this might be for you and you’d like to find out more or would like to sign up for a group please email kintsugi@stmichaelsbristol.org

Comments from previous participants:

“ I looked and listened to others in the room who I presumed had their lives sorted and realised that it wasn’t just me , that I wasn’t alone in my struggles”

“ The materials and resources covered have provided me with a metaphorical tool box to refer to on difficult days”

“ I’ve learnt about myself, what God wants for me and that there’s a better way, a better life in Him, as He intended”

“ I wish there had been something like this years ago! I needn’t have struggled for so long in silence”

“ I’ve realised ‘it’s OK not to be OK’ and that this was the first step to me acknowledging where I was at, having the desire to make changes, seek further and move forwards”

“The Kintsugi Hope Group allowed me to be honest with myself amongst a group of people where there was no judgement and who I could trust. It helped me to understand myself in a  better way”

One final comment …. “ We HAVE to do this …it’s the heart of the gospel!”

Growing Faith. Together

St Michael’s Centre is delighted to be hosting this Bristol Diocese event on Saturday 20 January

Bristol Diocese say:

At Growing Faith. Together, we aim to create an informal and welcoming environment where individuals from all parts of our diocese can come together to explore and deepen their faith. Whether you are a long-time believer, in church leadership or just starting your spiritual journey, this event is for you! If you can come with others from your parish team you will be able to get even more from learning and reflecting together.

Throughout the day, there will be engaging speakers, thought-provoking discussions, and inspiring worship sessions.

Keynote Speaker: Christopher Jamison – Former Abbot of Worth Abbey; reluctant star of the BBC2 series, The Monastery; Director of Vocations for England and Wales from 2010-2017 will speak on spiritual patterns for everyday life and lead a workshop on learning from Benedictine rhythms.

Workshops and short talks throughout the day will enable us to hear from the experience of others across the whole diocese who are seeking to help people grow in their discipleship and to help their churches flourish including:

  • Holy Habits
  • Renewing culture and building hope
  • Sabbath rest
  • New resources for encouraging growth in faith
  • Growing faith with young people
  • Developing patterns of life that fit with our temperament and personality
  • and more to be announced

You will have the opportunity to connect, think and pray with others who are longing to grow in faith and see our churches thrive, share your experiences, and learn from one another.
